Overview
International Driving Permit (IDP)
The International Driving Permit (IDP) is an internationally recognized document issued in accordance with the United Nations (UN) conventions on road traffic, specifically the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, which has been signed by most countries worldwide.
The IDP allows its holder to drive outside their country of residence, as it is issued based on a valid domestic driving license. Therefore, the International Driving Permit is not valid for driving in the country where the holder resides.
Saudi Arabia's accession to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic grants Saudi citizens and residents the right to drive in foreign countries that are signatories to the Convention, provided they obtain an International Driving Permit from the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SATA), which has been a member of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) since 1982.
The International Driving Permit is valid for one year from the date of issue.
