حافة العالم (اسمها الحقيقي جبل فهرين)، إحدى أشهر الوجهات السياحية في السعودية، اكتسبت لقبها من إطلالة الأفق الممتدّة من أعلى منحدراتها التي يبلغ ارتفاعها 300 متر، والمطلّة على السهل المحيط بها. وهي جزء من منحدر طويق الأطول بكثير، وتنحدر لمسافة 305 أمتار تقريبًا إلى قاع المحيط القديم. من أعلى المنحدرات، ستشاهد أنهارًا جافة تتعرج عبر الأرض، وقد ترى الجمال تجوب في الأسفل - طريق قوافل قديم كان يمرّ عبر هذه الأراضي.

🌍كيف تشكلت حافة العالم؟
تشكّلت هذه المنحدرات نتيجة حركة تكتونية للصفيحة العربية باتجاه الشمال الشرقي، نتيجة امتداد صدع البحر الأحمر على بُعد 1000 كيلومتر غرب جرف طويق.
يكشف القطع الواضح الذي نحتته عن طبقات الرواسب التي تراكمت هناك عندما كان الجزء الشرقي من شبه الجزيرة العربية بحرًا استوائيًا ضحلًا خلال العصر الجوراسي (قبل 150 مليون سنة).
أثناء سيرك على طول المسار، انتبه للأحافير، فهي بقايا من الفترة التي كانت فيها المنطقة جزءًا من قاع المحيط. أثناء التقاط المناظر من حولك، التقط صورًا لأي حفريات قد تصادفها، حيث لن يُسمح لك بإخراج هذه القطع الأثرية من المنطقة.
